Type: Introduction to rGEDI: An R Package for NASA’s Global Ecosystem Dynamics Investigation (GEDI) Data Visualization and Processing (GEDI) Theoretical / Practical (The students will use their own computer and the programs will be installed previously)
NASA’s Global Ecosystem Dynamics Investigation Lidar (GEDI) is a spaceborne lidar system specifically designed to study forest structure. GEDI was launched to the International Space Station (ISS) on December 5th, 2018 for a two-year of mission. GEDI will collect ~25-m diameter footprint full-waveform lidar data to characterize vegetation structure and aboveground biomass (AGB) globally, and report on AGB dynamics across landscapes. This one-day (8hs) course will provide faculty, students, and professionals with an introduction to GEDI technology. The lectures will strongly focus on GEDI data collection, data integration, data processing and analysis as well as the extraction of selected features. Several examples and applications for both environmental and forest sciences will be shown. A combination of lecture and on-site exercises, including data processing and analysis will be explored exhaustively using rGEDI, an open source R package for GEDI
